Do I need my own insurance?
Yes. We do not insure the trailer, your tow vehicle, or your cargo. In Nova Scotia a towed trailer is generally covered for third-party liability under the auto policy of the vehicle towing it, but damage to the trailer itself usually isn't unless your policy specifically extends to non-owned trailers. Call your insurer before you book and ask them directly — it takes five minutes and it's the single most important thing to check.
What do I need on my vehicle to tow?
A hitch with the correct ball size, a matching trailer connector, and a tow rating high enough for the loaded trailer. Every trailer page lists exactly what it needs. If you're not sure what your vehicle has, take a photo of your hitch and call us.
What's a brake controller and do I need one?
It's a small unit in your vehicle that operates a trailer's electric brakes. Our flatbed and dump trailers have electric brakes, so you need one to tow them — a 4-pin connector runs lights only and physically cannot operate the brakes. The 5x8 utility trailer has no brakes, so it doesn't need one.
How old do I have to be?
18 or older with a valid driver's licence. We need a photo of the front and back before pickup.
Do I pay online?
No. Booking online costs nothing up front — you pay the rental and the refundable deposit in person when you pick up. We're working on online payment, but for now it's in person.
How does the deposit work?
It's refundable. We take it at pickup and return it once the trailer comes back on time, clean, and undamaged. If there are extra charges, we apply the deposit to them first and return whatever's left.
What happens if I bring it back late?
Late returns are charged at 1.5× the daily rate for each extra day, because a late trailer usually means we're cancelling on the next person. If you're running behind, call us — we can often extend it if nothing's booked behind you.
Does it need to be cleaned before I return it?
Sweep it out and empty it. That's it — you don't need to wash it. If it comes back needing cleaning before the next rental, there's a $75 cleaning fee. This mostly catches dump trailer returns full of dirt.
Can I cancel?
Yes, free of charge any time before the rental starts. Cancel it yourself from your account, or call us.
Can I take the trailer out of province?
Within Atlantic Canada, yes. Anywhere further needs our written approval first — just ask.
What if something breaks while I'm using it?
Stop somewhere safe and call (902) 832-9067. We'll arrange a repair, a replacement, or refund the unused part of the rental. Don't arrange your own repair — we won't cover it unless we agreed to it first.
Can someone else tow it for me?
No. Only the person named on the rental agreement may tow the trailer. If someone else is doing the towing, they need to be the one who books it and signs.
Do you deliver?
Not usually — pickup is at 1467 Hammonds Plains Road. If you're stuck, call and ask; we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.
